Astrometrics / Science Lab
Though the Gallipoli class is a large vessel it is expected to carry a
large amount of vehicles, equipment and troops. Because of this essentially all
ship systems are located in the saucer section and so space is surprisingly
scares. This lack of space and the primarily military nature of the class
means science and Astrometrics facilities were not an important aspect of the ships
design. Previous Starfleet vessels have been adversely affected due to a lack
of these facilities and Starfleet did not want to repeat this in the Gallipoli
class. To this end the Genesis has its science lab and astrometrics incorporated
into the same department.
The room itself is split in to two areas. The first Astrometrics has a large wraparound holographic wall screen which can display stellar regions three dimensionally. The main controls are assigned in front of the screen on the staging area. Behind this are a series of control panels to manipulate the screen and a number of secondary control panels are located around the room. The other area is the science lab, though this lab pales in comparison to even a single one of the labs found on board a Galaxy class starship it is adequate for the tasks required of it.
