History of the Company
The Bushveldt Carbineers have a long and proud history and has been
deployed in almost every conflict the Federation has faced.
The company was stationed aboard the USS Rutledge during the Cardassian war. When the Rutledge responded to a distress call from the colony on Setlik 3, the BVC were the first marine unit to land on the planet and, with the help of a young Fleet officer by the name of Miles O’Brien, was instrumental in pushing the Cardassians off the planet by attacking the Barrica encampment.
Later, during the Dominion war the company was deployed to AR 558, a planet in the Chin’toka system along the Cardassian boarder. The company was assigned to capture and hold a Dominion communication array so that Starfleet engineers could use it to tap into the dominion communication network.
After a siege of more the 3 months, and repeated Jem’Hadar attacks, our forces were down to less than a third of their original strength. It was not until the USS Veracruz arrived with re-enforcements that the company was relieved.
After a short rest at DS9 the company was brought back to full strength and assigned to the invasion of Cardassia Prime. As the Dominion surrendered before the invasion of the planet took place, the 379th was redeployed as an occupational force. The BVC were instrumental in rebuilding the planet’s infrastructure after much of it was destroyed by Dominion troops in the final days of the war.
Since the end of the Dominion war the 379th has continued with its rapid response duties, being deployed wherever and whenever the Federation needs it. Whether deployed in relief work or in peacekeeping action, the company continues to show the same courage and honour that has made the BVC what they are today.
