Weapons of the 379th
M-3A4 Tactical hand
Phaser
The M-3A4 is the standard sidearm for the SFMC. The Corps chose not to adopt Starfleet’s “broom handle” Type-2 phaser, its fragile nature and lack of sights make it unsuitable for marine use so the SFMC chose to upgrade their older M-3 “Combat Phaser”.
With the upgrades complete the M-3A4 proved to be an excellent weapon. As a compression phaser it is capable of a much higher rate of fire than the Type-2 and its more powerful yield gives it greater stopping power. This plus integrated sights, simple firing controls, detachable powercell and a robust design makes the M-3A4 the perfect sidearm for the marine of the 24th century.

M-45 Special
Operation Hand Phaser
The M-45 is a unique weapon. A mix between a hand phaser and a Carbine, marines have taken to calling it a machine pistol.
The M-45 is specially designed for the CQB (close quarter battles) in highly populated areas were a high rate of fire is more important than range and stopping power. Because of this the M-45 has the same yield as the M-3A but a phenomenal recharge rate of 900rmp.
The M-45 has limited use in normal battlefield conditions but in CQB like ship seizure or city fighting it is a highly effective and extremely popular weapon.

M-116A2 Phaser Rifle
The M-116A2 is the standard infantry rifle for the SFMC. The M-116 is a modified STARFLEET Type3b Phaser, adapted to suit the more demanding nature of marine combat.
The primary modification is its ability for fully automatic fire. This gives the M-116 a recharge rate of 500rpm making it much more lethal in combat. This extra fire power does come at a cost, the weapon is heavier than a Type-3b and the yield is lowered reducing its rang. The M-116 is also extremely adaptable to suit operator’s needs through a wide range of attachments, everything from a carrying handle/sight, forward hand grip, quick reaction scope, various light emitters, the Clark inhibiting suppressor, underslung grenade Launcher, and a bayonet are all available. Marines like to joke that the next attachment will be a small replicator so they can make their own coffee.
Despite the reduction in yield the M-116 proved an extremely effective weapon. A perfect balance between fire power, flexibility and reliability it proved extremely popular with troops and has been distributed widely throughout the Corps.

M-116/c Phaser
Carbine
The M-116/c is a new carbine phaser designed to replace the ageing M-110 and is based on the M-116.
Carbine phasers are designed for CQB fighting ware a couple of centimetres can mean the difference between getting a rifle around a corner or slamming it into a bulk head. With this in mind the rifle was shortened and given a collapsible butt-stock reducing the weight and length especially during transport. To accommodate the folding stock the ammunition system was moved to in front of the trigger but it retains the same rail system as the M-116, so it can use all the same attachments and sights.
As an Air-mobile unit the M-116/c is the preferred weapon of the BVC, its light weight and compact size make it perfect for the company’s highly mobile tactics. Because of this many marines have replaced there M-116 with the carbine version. In fact there are many units in the 379th who have replaced there M-116 completely.

M-221 marksmanship
phaser
The M-221 is the SFMC’s standard anti-personnel marksmanship phaser. The success of the M-116/c showed the M-116 would be a good platform for a series of specialist phasers and was chosen as a base for the M-221.
Extensive changes have been made to the M-116 frame to convert it to a marksmanship phaser. The weapons yield has been increased, a small containment field generator is incorporated into the barrel giving the bolt greater stability during flight and the edition of a holographic scope all extending the phasers range. An IDF generator incorporated into the stock, sloping had grip and bipod make the M-221 and extremely stable platform. It has been restricted to semiautomatic fire and a “flip-up” scope is mounted offset on the rifle allowing it to be fire at close range in an emergency.
All this does increase the weapons size and weight but it is still much smaller than previous marksmanship phaser and its compact makes it perfect for use by Air-mobile troops and is the primary marksmanship phaser of the BVC.

M-970A1 automatic compression
rifle
The M-970 is a support phaser designed to be carried by a single marine, the first such phaser issued by the Corps.
Like the M-116 the M-970 is a compression phaser but as a support phaser it is designed for sustained automatic fire rather than short bursts. To compensate for this higher volume of fire support weapons are traditionally big cumbersome weapons requiring at least a 2 man crew, often more. This is not the case with the M-970, the entire weapon is designed to be a small as possible.
Constructed with entirely new technology the M-970 is light weight and compact perfect for Airmobile units. As such it is extremely popular amongst the 379th with most units replacing there M-1137.

M-1137 light infantry
support phaser
The M-1137 is an Infantry support phaser.
Like the M-970 the M-1137 uses large amounts of compressed fire to support infantry operations but fires higher yield bolts. These bolts increase the weapons power and extend its range but also increase the size and weight and of the weapon and its powercell . Because of this the M-1137 is carried in a 2 man team.
Many Units in the 379th have replaced there M-1137, preferring the more compact M-970 though some units retain their M-1137 preferring its extra fire power

M-772 LID (Light
Isomagnetic Disintegrator)
The M-772 is the 379th primary anti-armour weapon.
Isomagnetic Disintegrators are relatively new weapons and use high yield plasma to inflict considerable damage to enemy targets. Unlike Isomagnetic Disintegrators used by Starfleet the M-772 has a single power sell integrated into the weapon. This reduces the size and weight of the weapon but does mean the weapon can only be fire once then discarded.
Because the 379th is an a Airmobile unit it very rarely carries heavy weapons such as the M-2 or M-1160 and so relies heavily on this weapon. It is not uncommon for 3 or 4 to be carried by a single squad.

M-201A1 Weapon
mounted Grenade Launcher EMPW (40mm)
The M-201 is an underslung grenade launcher designed for use with the M-116 and its variants.
The weapon is a single-shot muzzel-loading design and uses a magnetic rail system is used to attach to the underside of the M-116’s emitter tube.
The M-201 is extremely popular with the 379th as it gives them an indirect fire capability without the need for mortars or other heavy weapons and because it car fire everything from flairs to high explosives it offers a large amount of flexibility in a very small package.
